Assistant Headmaster

As Assistant Headmaster I oversee the general direction of our academic programs at Pickens Academy. The goal of our academic programs is to prepare our students for the digital world of the 21st century. We currently are in year 3 of a technology plan that has transformed our learning environment into one that supports digital and mobile learning. To be college or career ready in the 21st century, one must be able to adapt to multiple forms of technology and access various information/problem solve across those technologies. Our students and teachers in grades K3-12 are immersed in a 1:1 environment that includes iPads in grades K3-2 and Chromebooks in grades 3-12. This transition in the end has proven to enhance our curriculum and increased the rigor of our instruction. Pickens Academy is now able to expand what we offer to our students through online courseware and digital textbooks/resources.

All classrooms K3-12 now have access to Interactive Whiteboards. This interactive technology has allowed teachers to provide digital and hands-on instruction to our students.

Curriculum in grades K3-12 was upgraded this year to raise our level of instruction and to support our college and career standards. K3-6 curriculum was upgraded to focus on 5 key areas: Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, STEM and Critical Thinking. Grades 7-12 curriculum was upgraded this year in the areas of History and English. English and history texts were selected to challenge and students and create a deeper understanding of content.

The expansion of our course offerings through the Pickens County Career Center has enabled Pickens Academy to offer a variety of career-tech and dual enrollment courses. These courses provide students the necessary skills and knowledge to assist them down their chosen college or career path.

I want to give a big thank you to the Pickens Academy community for their generous support for this project. Through partnerships and private donations we have been able to raise the funds necessary to support this project. So, once again thank you for your support!

If there are any questions regarding curriculum, classroom instruction, or technology please do not hesitate to contact me.

Pickens Academy will continue to upgrade our curriculum to meet the demands of the 21st century. If you wish to donate or help support our project please contact me and we can discuss how you can support academics at Pickens Academy.

Thanks,

Tripp Sanders
